Dr. Pepine is an internationally recognized leader in both the clinical and scientific areas of cardiovascular medicine. His major interests focus on the pathophysiology of ischemic heart disease and coronary and systemic vascular hemodynamic mechanisms underlying the disease. He is principal investigator for the UF center for the NHLBI-funded Women’s Ischemia Syndrome Evaluation (WISE) and the UF center for the Cardiovascular Cell Therapy Research Network (CCTRN). He has been or is the PI for many investigator initiated clinical trials.
He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the Master physician of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), a Gifted Teacher Award from the Florida Chapter ACC, the Theodore E. Woodward award from the American Clinical and Climatological Association, the Paul Dudley White award from the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States, the Clinical Faculty Prize in Research from the University of Florida College of Medicine as well as a University of Florida Research Foundation Professorship. Dr. Pepine is a member of the American Clinical and Climatological Association (ACCA), American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI), and Association of University Cardiologists (AUC). He is a fellow of European Society of Cardiology (ESC), American Heart Association (AHA), Councils on Circulation and Clinical Cardiology, and the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions. He is a past president of the ACC and member of the Board of Trustees. He is currently serving or has served on numerous ACC/AHA Task Forces and Committees and is the founder and overall Project Chair for the Vascular Biology Working Group (VBWG).
Dr. Pepine has co-authored over 600 original contributions to the scientific literature in cardiovascular medicine. He serves or has served on numerous editorial boards, including American Heart Journal, American Journal of Cardiology, American Journal of Geriatric Cardiology, Cardiovascular Therapeutics, Circulation, Clinical Cardiology, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Journal of Preventive Cardiovascular Medicine and Cardiac Catheterization and Cardiovascular Diagnosis.
He is the Medical Editor of Today in Cardiology. He has authored/edited numerous textbooks including, Acute Myocardial Infarction (F.A. Davis, 1989); Diagnostic and Therapeutic Cardiac Catheterization (Williams and Wilkins, 1989; second edition, 1994; third edition, 1998); Medical Therapy of Ischemic Heart Disease: Nitrates, Beta Blockers, and Calcium Antagonists (Little Brown and Company, 1992); and CathSAP (1999). Dr. Beaver’s clinical efforts focus on making cardiac and aortic surgery safer for patients through minimally invasive techniques, including minimally invasive surgery for atrial fibrillation. He is involved in multiple clinical trials evaluating stent-grafting of thoracic aneurysms, renal protective strategies and avoiding cardiopulmonary bypass altogether. Laboratory investigations underway include projects studying the inflammatory response following cardiac surgery and efforts to improve the ablation strategies for atrial fibrillation.

Currently, he is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Florida where he serves as the Director of the Pediatric Interventional Electrophysiology and Pacing program on both the Jacksonville and Gainesville campuses. He also serves as the Director of the Pediatric Transtelephonic Arrhythmia Monitoring program and the Co-director of the North Florida Children’s Comprehensive Cardiac Network. After earning her Bachelors in Biology from Harvard University, she went on to receive her M.D. from the University of Florida, and completed her residency at Emory University. Dr. Conti’s clinical efforts focus on clinical electrophysiology, pacemakers, defibrillators, management of arrhythmias, radiofrequency ablation, and biventricular pacing for congestive heart failure. Dr Conti’s academic interest is focused mainly in intracardiac device trials. She directs both the Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship as well as the General Cardiovascular Diseases Fellowship at the University of Florida. She is currently board certified in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology.
Dr. Conti has over 80 publications, 60 abstracts and has co-authored and reviewed dozens of book chapters. She is an active manuscript reviewer for multiple peer reviewed journals including: Clinical Cardiology, American Journal of Cardiology, Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, and the European Journal of Clinical Investigation. Dr. Feller is Board Certified in Family Medicine and his medical interests include alternative therapies especially acupuncture and herbal medicine. His professional services at the Family Practice Medical Group include interpretation of ECG’s, spirometry, tympanometry, performance of exercise stress tests, flexible sigmoidscopy, minor surgery, and research for the treatment of atrial fibrillation and heart failure. He received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Biology from Houston Baptist University, graduating summa cum laude. He completed his medical degree, residencies in Internal Medicine/Cardiology, and Cardiac Electrophysiology fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. His scholarships and awards include: Rotary International Fellowship for study aboard University of Heidelberg, Germany, field of study-medicine, and Southwestern Medical Foundation Scholarship for academic excellence. Dr. Horton has also served as an Instructor in Internal Medicine (Cardiology) at UT Southwestern Medical School. He is a former Director of the Electrophysiology Laboratory, Dallas VA Medical Center. Dr. Horton has published many manuscripts in peer reviewed journals and has participated in over 25 research protocols. More recently he traveled to Medellin, Columbia to lend his considerable catheter ablation expertise to set up an ablation lab and assist in training Columbian doctors. He later went on to complete his fellowship in Electrophysiology at Bridgeport Hospital, Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Watts moved to Florida in 1996 to accept a position at Brevard Cardiology, a large private practice in Merrit Island, FL, where he worked for ten years. Dr. Watts has recently formed a new and successful practice, Heart Rhythm Associates of Brevard, in Rockledge, FL. Dr. Watts specializes in cardiology, clinical cardiac electrophysiology, and internal medicine - and has been published multiple times in Circulation. He has been the Supervising Physician for Medicomp’s 24-hour Cardiac Monitoring Center (CMC) since 1998. In this role, he assists in the development and coordination of continuing education and in-service training for the facility’s Certified Cardiographic Technicians. He also provides consulting, when required, in the performance and interpretation of each type of diagnostic procedure performed in Medicomp’s CMC.
